Pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period brings many physical, emotional and social changes to a family's life. This can have an impact on personal relationships for one or both parents and also for the wider family dynamic. Relationship difficulties may occur for the first time, or re-occur. Well intentioned, but unsolicited assistance or advice from family or friends can place pressure on the expectant or newly expanded family. In addition, peer or social expectations may also have a negative effect upon relationships.
Please do look at the information provided on these webpages for evidence-based advice in caring for yourself and how others can assist you during pregnancy and the postnatal period. Information is available from your midwife and in your notes for charities and counselling services should they be needed.
