Carers Week 2019
June 10th to 16th 2019 is Carers Week, when we recognise and celebrate the huge contribution that carers make and we highlight the challenges they face.
This year the theme of Carers Week is 'Getting Carers Connected'. Many carers don't consider themselves to be carers, even though they are. As a consequence they may not seek out any support and they can feel as if they are shouldering the burden of caring for their family member, friend or neighbour all on their own. Yet there is support available and we want to support carers to be able to access it, to help them improve their personal situation, their own health and wellbeing, thereby improving the support to the person they care for.
There are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers. They will be looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older.
A carer is anyone who looks after (unpaid) family or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail, have a physical disability or mental health condition, or problems with drugs or alcohol. You’re not on your own.
