More than 200,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses given within local healthcare system

The number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered within the Frimley healthcare system has today passed 200,000.

Hospital, GP-led and national vaccination centres have together achieved the landmark total, bringing greater protection to residents across the area.

The latest national figures reveal that 20 million people across the country have now been offered the COVID jab.

The 200,000 figure is for residents within the Frimley Health and Care Integrated Care System, covering East Berkshire, Surrey Heath and North East Hampshire and Farnham.

Health and care teams have continued to work extremely hard to offer vaccinations across 14 different locations, with hundreds of clinicians, administrators, marshals and volunteers joining together.

Sarah Bellars is Executive Director of Quality and Nursing and Director of Infection, Prevention and Control for the Frimley Collaborative of Clinical Commissioning Groups. She said: “Reaching this milestone is fantastic news and I would like to thank everyone involved for their continued commitment and efforts – from those administering the jabs on the front line to the volunteers helping ensure the process runs smoothly, and of course the many staff working away in the background to plan, establish and support the vaccination services.

“I would also like to thank local residents and communities for their on-going support for the vaccination programme, demonstrated by their enthusiasm to have their jabs, which is helping to save lives and reduce serious hospital admissions.

She added: “Over the past weeks and months, we’ve worked closely with local communities,religious/faith leaders and local influencers to address vaccination hesitancy and misinformation, as well as provide a platform for questions to be asked and answered.”

Vaccinations are being delivered in line with the national programme to ensure those are considered most at risk are prioritised. The approved COVID-19 vaccines have been through rigorous testing and approvals processes and been demonstrated to be safe and effective.

Nationally, take-up of the vaccine has been strong with nine in 10 people in the top four priority groups ( All those aged 70 and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals) having taken up their first dose along with four in five 65-69 year olds (priority group 5).

If you are in these groups and haven’t come forward yet, it’s not too late – it’s quick and simple to book at, and the vaccines are safe and effective.
